Round 3 of the Arab Elite Chess Championship 2011: A tactical combination by Salem AbdelRahman put him as the sole leader; Fadi Eid drew his game

It seems that the added-on-breakfast materials had a long effect on Salem AbdulRahman, even after the lunch break, as he beat, with the White pieces on board 1, the strong Mohamad Tissir, and in style.

The diagram above shows the position reached after the 16th black move, and Salem played: 17 Nxf7!! And the Black position felled apart.

On board 2, Fadi Eid, playing White, drew his game against the Jordanian Sami Khader. The was game was balanced all the way.

The board 3 game between the two highest rated players of the Elite event, the Egyptian GM Ahmad Adly, playing White, and the Qatari GM Mohamad ElModiahki was sold by a draw. A King’s Indian Defense with central exchange was the strategy adopted by the players, where a mass of pieces exchanges couldn’t be avoided. It seems that both players don’t want to take any risk at this early stage of the championship.

On board 4, playing with the black pieces, the Yemeni Zendan Zendani played a positional game against the Sudanic Rashid Yaaqoub. Relying on the nuances and small advantages,  Zendani earned a deserved point.

Board 5 witnessed a totally different story. The Palestinian Attallah Tamrah, as White, played very aggressively to reach the following position against the Bahraini Hussein Ayyad:

With 3 extra pawns, it seems the matter was settled. But several inaccurate moves by Tamra, added by the activity of the 2 Black’s bishops, enabled Ayyad to save his scalp.

Another peace was signed on board 6 between the Syrian Mohamad Samir and the Tunisian Kamel Nijli, where both players maneuvered their pieces without taking any risk.

Can you castle twice during the same game? If yes, then the victory is on your side. And that what happened on board 7, where the Kuwaiti Badr Al-Hageri, as White, castled long against the Mauritanian Ousmane Daouda. Then he moved his king back to the king side, to collect the point!!
